What a difference it makes to our mood when the sun comes out!
Why is that?
Nothing has really changed – our job is the same, the car still needs servicing, and yet, the sun somehow changes the way we see the world.
According to an article written by Rachel Nall, RN, BSN, CCRN in Healthline , sunlight triggers the neurotransmitters that create serotonin in our brain, which makes us feel happier, calmer, more focused and optimistic. On the other hand, darkness triggers the production of melatonin, which makes us feel sleepy.
Along with exercise, sleep and good nutrition, and adequate amount of sunlight (with caution in high UV areas) can give us the natural boost that we need to keep our mood buoyant and help manage seasonal and other types of depression and anxiety.
What a wonderful thing! Walk with your head up, spend time outdoors. Notice the dust that shows up in the house, and then leave it and take a walk in the sun – your brain will thank you for it 🙂
