A story of motivation

This story isn’t about hypnotherapy, but it is about what can be achieved once you really put your mind to work. Strength of mind comes from accepting small steps forward and seeing each one as an achievement, and the more you know about the story of British Boxers, the more you’ll find to inspire you.

Helping you during Chemotherapy and beyond

I’ve spent today in Bristol learning from my amazing colleagues how to deliver effective help for chemotherapy patients during treatment. The award winning team delivering the CPD today are pioneering hospital-based Solution Focused Hypnotherapy in Wales where they have become an essential part of the oncology team. Their research and experience shows that hypnotherapy is effective in reducing anxiety and also reduces the need for medication such as anti-emetics during chemotherapy.

Whilst I don’t yet work in the hospital environment, I am well equipped to offer clinic-based treatment in Ivybridge and Plymouth to anyone undergoing or having completed chemotherapy, including for needle phobias, nausea and pain. Please contact me here, using the contact form below. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sugar, honey?

So this month I’m going sugar free! As I’m a known chocaholic this will no doubt come as a surprise to some, but here’s why.

It’s good to take control.

We all know that sugar is a bad food choice, but most of us also know how much we like it, so we think that it’s difficult to stop having it. But it’s not. Not really. It’s all about choices, and it’s what we tell ourselves that makes the difference. Learning to have control of small choices like food is a big step in gaining control of our lives as a whole. Then along comes confidence, self esteem, and happiness!

Here’s the other thing.

I’m doing it as part of a group, so there’s accountability. We are definitely better as a team, and for this month, my team is the Devon Fit Camp crew. We are all keeping each other on track, because nobody wants to be the one to let the others down!

If you’d like to join in, click on ‘Devon Fit Camp’ above.

Obsessive thinking eased with Solution Focused Hypnotherapy

Do you ever struggle with unwanted and intrusive negative thoughts? Do you sometimes find yourself engaged in small ‘rituals’ whereby you check your car door is definitely locked again and again and again?
Are you tired of this cycle of endless checking and obsessive behaviour? Are you looking for help to break away from it and so embrace a positive way of managing your life?

If the answer is “yes”, you may find Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can help to ease your mind away from thinking endless negative thoughts that can lead to, in extreme cases, you struggling to leave your own home.

“I often see people who come to seek help with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder or OCD”, explains Sally Potter, a fully-qualified and insured Solution Focused Hypnotherapy practitioner based in Ivybridge and Plymouth.

“As our daily lives are increasingly stressful in the modern world so, sometimes, our brains struggle to adapt to the challenges we face.

“As such, it tries to protect us by re-checking things again and again, or introducing obsessive thinking into our lives. Negative thoughts then end up in something we term as a ‘stress bucket’ and people may find themselves re-checking things as part of an unwanted habit.

“Solution Focused Hypnotherapy aims to empty the stress bucket so allowing the client to have a more relaxed and confident outlook to their life which, in turn, helps them to stop worrying, and to focus on the positive aspects of life as a whole.”

Sally offers a free initial consultation to explain how the brain works and how Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can be beneficial for the client. She also provides a relaxation CD or MP3 download for prospective clients during the course of the meeting.

Each session is designed to focus the mind into a mode of positive thinking prior to entering the trance state, which is  relaxing and soothing for the individual.

The number of sessions used by people who have obsessive feelings can vary and, obviously, as with any medical issue, it is important to remember that your GP is also there to help.

Sally  was awarded the Hypnotherapy Practitioner’s Diploma (HPD) in 2016 following extensive training as part of the Clifton Practice Hypnotherapy Training course. She is a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH), which ensures its members adhere to a strong ethical code and engage in regular supervision sessions.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy can also be used to help improve sleep, help with anxiety and depression, reduce phobias and fears and help people to stop smoking.

Hypnosis in cancer care

Some of my colleagues are pioneering the use of hypnotherapy in hospitals in particular with chemotherapy patients, to improve the patient experience, reduce pain and help with some procedures. I will be extending my knowledge of this area of hypnotherapy next month, to enable me to offer similar treatments. The attached article (not mine) explains how hypnotherapy can help, and is further evidence of it’s effectiveness and increasing acceptance as a supplementary therapy.

Confidence – where does it come from?

I see a lot of clients whose main issue when they come and see me is confidence. They used to have it, or maybe they never had it, but they definitely want it!
Confidence allows us to achieve whatever we want to. It enables us to interact in a meaningful way with the world and the people around us. It’s heady stuff – others notice it and react to it. When we feel confidence in others we are attracted to it, like a sort of invisible magical force.
Except it’s not magic.
We’ve all got confidence.
We just have to find it and learn how to use it.
That’s where I come in. I can help unearth that hidden confidence and give it back to you so that you can use it however you want to! Stand in front of a crowd and speak? Walk down the aisle on your wedding day? Smash your next job interview? Whatever it might be, is possible. Contact me here or call on 01752894160 to arrange a free initial consultation.
