How do you manage overwhelm and prevent burnout?
Are you good at recognising when it’s time to switch off for a bit?
When your ‘stress bucket’ gets overfilled, it becomes difficult to manage. You feel overwhelmed and if you don’t do something about it, burnout follows.
Learning to properly relax is key to being in control. Hypnotherapy is a natural and gentle way to manage overwhelm and prevent burnout.
Burnout happens when you reach the end of your resources.
I think you would find it hard to carry the bucket of water in this picture without spilling anything.
Similarly, when you’re tired, continuously under pressure or dealing with big problems, it’s difficult to manage your own load without something spilling over.
When this happens, you may notice different things happening
-
You can’t make decisions
-
You become tearful
-
You feel like you can’t carry on
Negative thought fills your bucket. You know the stuff. Things that are out of your control. Events that happened yesterday, or even a long time ago in the past. Or worries about what MIGHT happen tomorrow…
Yet they wake you at 3am and won’t leave you alone. Your brain is in overdrive, completely overwhelmed.
Your alarm goes off and you feel as though you haven’t slept. Your bucket is almost full, and it doesn’t take much to make it overflow again.
You have a stressful day, you’re overtired, and so the cycle goes on.
Sound familiar? This is burnout.
Almost all of my clients are experiencing this type of scenario. Life just got too busy, and the bucket is perpetually full.
You are burnt out. There is nothing left to enable you to manage.
So what can we do about it?
Here are a couple of tips –
See relaxation as a valuable activity in its own right. Sleeping is NOT cheating!
Do the things you enjoy on a regular basis. Especially those things that take you outside into nature.
Spend time with people that you feel good being around.
Become an expert at noticing when you are BEGINNING to feel overwhelmed.
